The pope is threatening ALL politicians with excomunication if they don't legislate the way he wants them to.

As this violates the oaths these people took when taking office, shouldn't they resign?

The Pope doesn't give orders. You are stating a worn out anti Catholic diatribe that has been unsuccessful in slandering Catholic politicians for years. The Church guides and I, for one, listen to the Church and the Pope but make my own decisions. I may be a Catholic but I KNOW the Pope is Not infallible. We all do. God has given us all His greatest gift, the ability to think. Try it, you'll like it.

The Pope did NOT threaten ALL politicians...just the Catholic ones!

And this country has a separation of Church and State.

This is the view of the Catholic Church. If they are at odds with this view, they should find a new church that agrees more with their views. These politicians should leave the church, not political office.

The Pope's message ONLY APPLIES to Catholic politicians, not to all politicians. Read the story before you comment.

I think that they should resign no matter what. These politicians were put in their position by voters, not the catholic church. They should stand up for the voters needs and not the catholic church.

Catholicism, like all other faiths, has certain expectations of the behavior of its adherents. Consistently supporting the legal sanctity of life is expected of Catholic politicians. If they cannot in good conscience do so, they should leave the Church.

If you can prove that the reason they voted the way they did is because they were following the Pope's orders and not because it was their own opinion then sure they should resign. Good luck proving it.

That was the worry when JFK became president, but he sure as hell didn't listen to the pope.

If a politician intends to follow such stupidity, yes they should resign.

I am catholic and pay such edicts form the church little mind. Benedict the XVI wants to bring us back to the gloom of the dark ages.

Just because the Pope threatened does not mean they will obey. I think most will legislate their own choice and not blindly follow the church.

Well, a Catholic who supports abortion is either lying about being Catholic or should be voted out for having no integrity.

YES- the Pope has every right to excummunicate anyone he reasoned and his governing body reasoned as not following doctrine.

DONT be a Catholic otherwise - its is not some public college club.

Foreigners dont have influence on our public officials? You saying our foreign policy is objective or that foreign corporations or PACs dont have their hands in our politicians pockets?

Your light bulb is dim.
