Listening more than talking, watching what is said and being aware of body language (if in person). If online, then consistency of attitude and posts over a period of time. If in actual conversation, make leading statements which often fall under the category of your own personal opinion. It's amazing how many people will feel free to state their own stance on things if even one person speaks up.
