Danielle had it right. there is no green dot circling either. there is something set like marqee lights and all that is happening is the pink dots are being covered in a circular pattern. that vreif absence of the pink, followed by its reappearance leaves an imprint on the retina, sort of like looking at the sun breifly and looking away. you will see it if you close your eyes as an after-image and it will be the opposite color of what you have just seen.

You know how when you stare at a light and close your eyes, the light seems to still be there? That's what is happening here. The image, in this case purple dots, is being burned into your photoreceptors. Wikipedia says: "When the eyes are then diverted to a blank space, the tired photoreceptors send out little signal and those colors remain muted. However, the surrounding cones that were not being excited by that color are still "fresh", and send out a strong signal. The signal is exactly the same as if looking at the opposite color, which is how the brain interprets it."

If it's NOT a fix it's a very good illusion - yes, I know green is the opposite of the pink, and the trouble is, once you've seen the green spot you can't get rid of the bloody thing! Well done anyway ! ! !

This is indeed misplaced, but I'm not beyond answering it. The cones in your eyes have trouble discerning the true color of images surrounded by gray, especially when they're in your peripheral vision or not in your direct focus, such as the moving dots when you stare at the cross.

Therefore, the negative space left behind by the red dot confuses your eyes, and you instead see the opposite color, green.

our eyes see certain colors and texturdes when focused on other things as for the green i'm not certain, i do not believe that its created by the designer. it could be that our eyes pick jup the encrypted colors from the monitors and place it there but that is my best suggestion.

You should probably have posted it in psychology--it's a perception thing.

It's really cool though. Almost as cool as http://www.looptracks.net/
