I live in a 2bdrm apt in Los Angeles and every summer it gets really hot and stuffy. I keep all the windows open and have 4 fans running constantly but it still feels like an oven! The windows open sidways so I can't put in an AC, any suggestions?!

Here's another tip....In the morning close your blinds on the east side of the apartment...This would help reflect heat out. Make sure you have white coloured or metallic blinds. These work best. As soon as the direct sun rays dont come through those windows anymore open the blinds up to increase circulation and prepare to close your western blinds. At about 5 pm when the sun's rays are weaker open up your apartment as much as possible to allow ventilation.
Some other things you can do are keep lighting to a minimum. and not use the stove or oven as much. Cook with a microwave if possible.

Install room darkening or black out blinds on all the windows. This will block out the sunlight that is making the room so hot. I installed these in the second floor of my house last summer and the difference is phenomenal. You could also get a window fan and just place it sideways in the window. they work great. That stinks.....LA and no AC. Maybe you could install a window ac and just block off the exposed portion of the window with plywood. Ask your landlord if it's ok.

You can get an AC unit that stands up on the floor. It usually has a duct the you can stick out your sideways sliding window. You will need to put some duct tape around it to make it air tight. Or cut it out of cardboard.

Good luck!

Have a velcro edging around the window frame and fix a transparent, removable, thin polycarbonate film to this. You can have your AC. When not needed the screen can be peeled off and stored flat. (under the bed?)

Your question is similar to my question yesterday. People suggested lots of fans, covering the windows, etc.
