I am sorry to say that our engagement has been broken. We have established that we are just not compatible, and it's best to move on.

I told her I would like the ring back and she complied. It is pretty expensive, appraised at $4500 and I paid a little over $2000 for it.

Where is a place I can get the most money for it? I think a pawn shop would rip me off pretty good, I have no idea where to sell expensive jewelry.

He sounds like a real JERK! Well, "jerk" is not the REAL word I want to use, but the good Yahoo! Answers people won't let me type the real word I want to use about him. So let me get this straight- you have been together for 8 years, you have a CHILD together, and he's only planning to give you monetary support IF he feels like it. Get yourself a lawyer and make this guy pay you child support at least, b ut he should also be responsible for "maintenance" payments, which used to be called alimony. If it was his wish that you did not work in order to stay home with the child, then he owes you money to live, because as you said, you're in a hole now. Even if you are able to get a job and begin supporting yourself, you probably don't have the necessary job skills at this stage of your life to sustain a high-level career that pays what you need to support yourself and your child, and any job you get, you'll have to start at the bottom and work your way up, and trust me, they don't pay a lot here at the bottom, LOL. Besides, if you are out working every day, you need money for child care expenses, and he needs to be responsible for that money. Forget about the heirloom ring, this is SO much bigger than a $25,000 ring! This is a legal matter, since just about every state in the union considers a long-term relationship like yours, with a child involved, to be a common-law marriage, so technically you two need to file for a legal divorce and divide your assets fairly. Seriously, get some legal counsel today, find out your rights, and sue this guy for some money- don't get all Heather Mills about it, but you at least need enough to support your child. Good luck!

Pawn shops will rip you off, you will only get about 20% of the value of the ring, so that would be a bad idea. Try e-bay, set your minimum for the least that you would let go of it and then let the bidders bid. You may not get much more than your minimum, but you may get a good deal more.

You should start with getting an appraisal so that you have proof of its worth, then either put it in a local paper, or go with ebay. Sorry that it didn't work out, but better to know now!

E-Bay

Congrats for being smarter than most men and not going through with a bad match-up. You have saved yourself years of heartache and thousands of dollars. Hope you find someone new that is better for you.

i own a pawnshop, and yep, you'd get ripped! Ebay would be your best answer, but you probably shouldn't expect too much.
