Sure it takes courage to be truly and totally oneself. BUT....it also takes a lot of self-understanding, reflection, and honesty to really know what being oneself IS. I think we often delude ourselves into thinking we are who we are, when in fact we may still be influenced by the actions and opinions of others. Even the non-conformist, who goes out of there way to be completely different from the pack, may actually just be reacting against others perceptions. Maybe he wears khakis when everyone else is wearing jeans to be different, but maybe inside he likes jeans.
Makes your head spin, to figure out just what you truly are. Great question!

anonymity here allows for total truthfulness and takes little courage...doing it in the real world takes nerves of steel.

It takes more than everything one has. It takes a higher power...and it takes reassurance from trusted friends or family to know that you're doing the right thing.

It takes a lot to be able to thumb your nose at society. I love it. It's so liberating to be a non-conformist.
