My older family members are now all deceased and I need to know about my Indian Heritage because I was told my great grandmother was Cherokee Indian and from the pictures I have seen she looks to be such.

This is just not something I have been told but I have seen the pictures that very much resemble those from Indian Heritage.

Nope. No tribe, nor the federal government, accepts DNA tests. Because: A- they aren't reliable- different companies will give you different results, and B- they can't pinpoint a tribe. Why are you claiming that "many americans in the south have native ancestry"? They don't. Less that 4% of them do. And seriously, " Blackfoot"? From Alberta, Canada? Why would people in the south be inclined to be related to Canadians? As for becoming a cherokee citizen, I'm sorry, but the cherokee have closed enrollment, you know. You must have one parent already a citizen, and enroll yourself before the age of 19. So, sorry, you are out of luck. But by all means, please continue to do family genealogy research and try to actually trace and verify your story, because you can't claim to have cherokee ancestry unless you can name the ancestor, and locate their name on the records. ( and it goes without saying that having a cherokee ancestor, even if proven, doesn't make YOU cherokee.) Please don't ever claim to be "part cherokee" to the real cherokee, or you will get mocked. (just warning- we hear the " my gr-gr-grandma was a cherokee" story 10 times a week. It gets old)
