he was a tryout player invited to the bears mini camp im not sure if he was offered a contract though

no he was left as arguably the best undrafted player. with that said he did it to himself because he left college early because he thought the notre dame offense was gonna fall apart because they lost all their weapons so he thought his production would drop. he wasn't the only underclassman to see himself slipping because he left college early.
