Why are they crediting the PATRIOT Act for the work of a civilian?

This guy did a wonderful thing for his country and the cons are completely overlooking the government's admission that, without his tip, they don't know if they'd ever have been aware of any attack before it took place, and God knows what would have happened (I'm thinking suicide bomb).

Why can't you people give this guy some credit? The PATRIOT Act had nothing to do with it!

A patriotic act did.

This guy's a hero. Stop trying to steal his thunder.

For those who claim that "without the PATRIOT Act, the authorities would not have been able to gather evidence," I have one thing to say: Bull.

The PATRIOT Act does not grant the FBI the right to do its job. The FBI has been collecting evidence in crimes since its inception, which I assure you happened long before the PATRIOT Act.

That's crap.

Maxx P: It wasn't a gas station attendant. It was a guy at a photo development place who was asked by these monsters to copy a video onto DVD of them screaming for jihad and firing weapons. So right wing radio is wrong, or you are a liar.

Hey the guy is a hero and I am a conservative.
Fox News gave him at a boys.
If no one has noticed it is the common people keeping aware of their surrounds that has done a great amount of help to stopping terrorist.
It all started on 9/11 when Flight 93 passenagers stop the attack not our military.
Right after that it was crew and passenagers stop the shoe bomber.
Since than there have been many many stories about passenagers stopping people who try to rush the cockpit.
The passenagers that stop the Imams when they acted like the hijackers on 9/11 ended their trail run.

I am not going to steal this guy thunder his thunder is loud and clear to me and those who want to stop Muslim terrorism.

That's what happens when people talk about laws but don't understand the process or the Constitution. The tape turned over would have provided the foundation for a warrant before the Patriot Act was ever conceived. This, in fact, was an example of why the Patriot Act does nothing to enhance our security. Why did we need a tip off from a civilian?

I am not going to say that all conservatives are not giving this guy credit, because clearly some are.
It drives me crazy when people label all conservatives as one thing, and all Liberals as one thing. I for one have some liberal views and some conservative views.
What else drives me crazy, is the people who praise the Patriot act like it is the best thing since sliced bread. They act like there wasn't any law enforcement prior to the Patriot act. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the FBI arrest people before the Patriot act was enacted?

Rightwing radio is a buzz over the gas station attendant who helped foil the plot. It is the Cons not the libs who value the worthiness of the individual. It is libs who think that everything must emanate from a government source.

Why are you generalizing all Conservatives like that? I am a conservative and the first thing I said was "the guy who turned them in should get a huge reward for doing so" I never once mentioned the patriot act. Although I'm sure after he turned them in, I bet in did come into play.... But the bigger hero is the citizen... No one is trying to steal his thunder... Matter of fact you are the first person i've seen who has mentioned the patriot act in all of this..

It's possible they are not trying to "steal his thunder" but protect him..... do you realize there are people here in this country that would consider this person a "nark"? Or perhaps other terrorist in the area that might want to kill him?

He did perform an extremely patriotic act and does deserve recognition but I'm not so sure national recognition is his best option at this point.

Yes he is a patriot did tip off and deserves credit....but what will the current attitude of the left of weaken the Patriot ACT would of then hampered the surveillance and monitoring of the complexity of the plot and thus caused the FBI to dismiss the plot to soon for they could not get follow on evidence to make the tip credible.....Then the left would be saying where was the Patriot act.......after the attack

deepest voters foiled it. I disagree that this attempt became the outcome of recent movements in Yemen. It became the movements of a collection who has been concentrated on the U. S. for years.

This guy is a hero for turning those tapes over to authorities. Remember, this happened in January of 2005. Without the Patriot Act, authorities wouldn't have been able to gather evidence to convict the terrorists.

Thank you President Bush for the Patriot Act.
Thank you President Bush for keeping me and my family safe.
