They were from England, probably from various schools. Jack's "hunters" were with him in his school's choir. (They ALL weren't in the choir, as the other answerer incorrectly stated.)

The characters weren't from any group or organization, they were a bunch of schoolboys the youngest being six (I think that would be a boy named Johnny) and the oldest was either Roger or Maurice at fourteen, I believe. You're probably thinking about Jack and his group of hunters, who were choirboys, as previously mentioned.

They were all members of their chior at their boarding school. I don't know the name of the school and I am unsure if it was ever mentioned in the book. But they were all chior members.
