I can't figure out why the answer is a negative fraction...just having trouble with these type of equations. I did it several ways, it just won't work out. Could someone please demonstrate the steps of solving it? Thanks!

The Equation you have shown must be a mistake. It should be 5(x-2) = 6(2x-1). To remove () multiply through it then becomes 5x-10 = 12x-6. I am sure you know what to do from here! In case you do not...We must put all the unknowns on one side of the equation. To do that you would subtract 5x from both sides. 5x-5x-10 = 12x-5x-6 which becomes -10 = 7x-6. Now add 6 to both sides. -10+6 = 7x-6 + 6 which becomes -4 = 7x. Divide both sides by 7. Then -4/7=7x/7 which becomes -4/7 = x. To solve for x substitute it in the original equation. 5( -4/7-2) = 6 ( 2(-4/7)-1).
Within the () there are fractions and whole numbers so make them a fraction. 5(-18/7) = 6( -15/7) which is -90/7 = -90/7. true statement.

on my keyboard the = symbol is the lower case and the + symbol is the upper case. so I assume the right side of the equation is 6(2x + 1)

5(x - 2) = 6(2x + 1)

5x - 10 = 12x + 6

5x - 10 - 5x = 12x + 6 - 5x

- 10 = 7x + 6

- 10 - 6 = 7x + 6 - 6

- 16 = 7x

- 16 / 7 = 7x / 7

- 16 / 7 = x

- 2 2/7 = x

5 (x-2) = 6(2x -1)

5 x - 10 = 12x - 6
-10 = 7x - 6
-4 = 7x
x = -4/7

5(x-2) = 6(2x- 1)
5x - 10 = 12x - 6
5x - 12x = - 6 + 10
-7x = 4
x = - 4/7

5x-10=12x-6 (u subtract both sides)
-5x-10=-5x-6
-10=7x-6
+6=7x
-4=7x (divide by 7)
x= -4/7
