You need to separate this out. Child support and alimony are two entirely different things. Yes, the mother should receive child support payments to look after the kids. Alimony, however, is quite a different matter. If the reason the woman is unable to work is because she has to stay at home to look after young, pre-school children, then OK (for a while), but once those children are a little older then I don't think she has any excuse not to get a job. Alimony should only be awarded for a limited time and only in cases where it's impossible for the woman to work because of childcare commitments. I'm a single mother BTW - I don't take any alimony from my ex and he very rarely pays anything for child support. I work two jobs to look after us - does that make me a strong and independent woman?
