Helmets won't prevent all deaths, but they do a good job of preventing some. When you're riding, why increase the chances of death?

On the other hand, the state doesn't have the right to force adults to take care of themselves. If an adult doesn't wear a helmet, face it -- he doesn't need one.

I won't get into the whole helmet law thing since I'm an MXer and don't ride the street anyway, but here is my experience. When I was a teenager I used to go jump on my MX bike and ride wheelies around the yard with no helmet. One day I had just bought a new helmet and that was the only reason I was wearing one. I flipped the bike and my head hit a rock and took a big chunk out of the back of my shinny new Shoei. If I wouldn't have been wearing that helmet I would have been DOA or severely brain damaged. I never get on a bike without a helmet anymore.

This is one of those questions that only the person riding can answer. Yes. helmets will protect your head from hitting the ground, getting the skin ground off your head. If you have ever had a wreck on a bike, the question is pretty easy to answer. You wear a helmet.

Sometimes a helmet will save your life and sometimes it won't. Sometimes, in a car, a seat belt will save your life and sometimes it won;t. Whenever you go out on the road there is a chance something will happen. It's a roll of the dice. So wear a helmet if you want or don't wear a helmet. Just don't force your opinion on others. Adults don't need someone telling them to wear this or that. Helmets are no exception.

If you ride a motorcycle, you WILL crash. When you crash, it WILL damage things. If you don't wear a helmet and gear, you WILL get hurt worse.

But just like side curtain airbags and ABS won't save you from dying when you drive off a cliff, even the best gear won't save you if you T-bone an SUV at 120mph.

Wear all the gear all the time, and you increase your odds of surviving your inevitable crash quite a bit. But the most important piece of safety equipment is between your ears.

There is no law preventing you from wearing a helmet. Wear a helmet if you would like and don't if you won't. However if you support a law to mandate helmet use WOULD you support MORE laws to control other devices like cigarettes and fatty foods? How would you like to have your lifestyle mandated by law? Would you stop smoking or eating food simply to obey the law?

When I ride I decide!

If you look at the ratio of deaths to accidents you will find that the 6 safest states have no helmet laws. There is much evidence to indicate that helmets can cause severe neck and spinal injury. If you want to wear one then do so by all means. Just don't try to force one on me. For some good helmet info go to www.msabate.org
