big sky, friendly people in the supermarkets, the weather, Cape Town, the bush, the sense of humour and chirps.
Here's an example of a Cape Town street chirp that always cracks me up when I remember it....True story, honest.
A woman is walking along Main Road in Obs.
Two men pass in the opposite direction and one shows their 'admiration' (?) of her with "kiss-kiss" hissing sounds. Quick as a flash the lady turns to him and says,
"What's the matter with you? Het jy a puncture in your gesig?"
Good for her!

Living in China the thing i miss most is the big blue sky and fresh air back home, the natural beauty, the people and the humor, the fooood oh the food, driving to Cape Town down the N1 especially De Doorns and the Hex River stretch, coming through the Huguenot tunnel and seeing Table Mountain, what's there not to love about SA.
And of course sunny skies, braaivleis and Chevrolet.

As I said in a previous answer, the fact that I love South Africa is this:
*I love the idea that I can get in my car in the morning knowing that my car won't be bombed as in Iraq the case might be
* I love the fact that I know I've got enough to eat and drink
* I'm thrilled by the idea that I can drink water out of a tap
* I enjoy it to know I can stand in a warm sun, and know that the sun will shine, everyday...
*I love biltong, Mrs.Ball's Chutney, Bokkoms, Bobotie, and much much more
* the rich fact of our country that it is full of history, culture, socializing, fun, color and tradition....
* we've got the BIG FIVE!!!!
This is just to name a few!!!!!

Of course, the usual suspects: the weather, the friendliness, biltong etc.
Also the diversity in this country, you never quite know what to expect.
Our sense of humour; we can really laugh at ourselves.
Oh and looking out over the surrounds of Jozi and just seeing oceans of trees everywhere.

I love the South African sense of humour I suppose...
Before lunch whilst chatting to our proof reader, Ms D... a very old but energetic and wise woman who works with us. There were police officers riding up F drive on bikes with sirens going off and one van folowed by anothe slow bike. She said something I hadnt really expected ffrom her..."Oh my, I think the police are playing today. Or are those new bikes they got there?"...
It honestly cracked me because she was quite serious faced when she said....
So it has to be the sense of humor... (',)
