There are forms of birth control that lessen your period days. Taking a pill to make you stop bleeding (from an egg that's already ruptured) isn't going to work. Use a tampon and if you're going to have sex on prom night, use a condom. Believe me that although a lot of females find periods disgusting I've never had a boyfriend that was grossed out by it.

If you had gone to the docs earlier you could have avoided this period altogether with meds but at this stage nothing you can do.
Birth control could actually make you bleed heavier as they interfere with your hormones so do not take them, also old drugs you no longer take should go back to the pharmacy to be destroyed
You can use tampons or a cap to hide the period and avoid big towels otherwise dont let it spoil your prom

I would stay away from anything with hormones. If I want to shorten my period, sometimes taking a jog works for me. I don't know why this works, but it does.
Hey, and about the prom; don't do something that years later you will wish you hadn't done. Just some advice from someone who's been there.

From what i was told and had done... I went to a chiropractor in order to get mine earlier. She pushed on a few things and relaxed some muscules and before you knew it later on that day i got it. I dont know how long ur cycle is but if you go soon enough they might be able to take care of it and you could be done with your period before prom.
Hope this helps.
Have FUN at prom!!!!!

No, there's no way to shorten or stop a period. Drinking water, and exercising will help make the period cause you less pain. But, to stop a natural occurrence of the body can't happen.
Periods are our bodies way of saying that things are working normal and no changing have happen.

No it wouldn't work.
Don't let your period run your life. Grab a tampon and dance away!
