It's one of the most reliable methods as you don't have to worry about forgetting to take a pill everyday, and it's good for 3 months at a time. However you can only be on it I think 2 years and you need to take a break. Something like that. No methods are 100% besides not having sex. My friend found out she's pregnant, I don't know if she was off the shot or how long.

The DP injection is a very effective form of contraception. You should not require the morning after pill. Use condoms anyway whilst you are on this injection as it only protects you from pregnancy not STD's. You are fully protected from pregnancy 14 day after the injection. You must go back for the injection every 12 weeks not every 3 months. The nurse will give you a date when you need your next dose. Make sure you make your appointment well in advance so you are not later then the 12 weeks. You5r periods may be a little all over the place in the first 6 to 8 weeks, but then in most cases you don't have periods at all. Make sure you still have a good daily intake of dairy products as the DP injection can effect bone growth so you need to take real care that you are having good natural sources of calcium. Good luck hunni, I'm sure you will be fine. Be safe and well.

I know of people who've got pregnant while still on it. No contraception is 100%. I had my last jab in Dec 06 and I'm ttc. I've just prepared myself for the fact that i might get pregnant right away or i may have a long wait ahead of me. Every woman is different so it'd be impossible to say how long it would take really. Good luck

I came off it in January - and am still waiting to get a period. I put on 40 pounds in the first six months and cannot lose it now. Apparently once I get my first period and the hormone has completed left my system the weight will fall back off. I will never go in it again and would never recommend it to anyone. I didn't get pregnant and didn't use any other form a contraceptive at the time.

Nothing but abstinence is 100% reliable, although I have heard of women getting pregnant within a month after coming off of the Depo shot.
Also, if you take antibiotics, it can reduce the effectiveness of the shot, pill, or Nuvaring.

Do you mean depo? Its one of the more reliable ones. I was on it 10 years, was pg 5 months after my last shot. So 3 months it was active in there. Also you can breastfeed on it.

hi please please don't get the injection if your thinking of having children in the next couple of years, i came off mine in Jan 06 to try for my second child, i only just got my periods back in Feb and still haven't fell pregnant because there have no regular pattern, the only good thing that has happened to me since i came off is losing half a stone, it is true that you can put weight on.
