Have you ever noticed how ill-informed other users are in other categories ? I'm speaking of how ill-informed they are about Politics or Current Events . Go ahead and ask a political question in Polls and Surveys and just take a look at the ignorant answers you'll get . Or just browse that category or others for awhile . We also see ignorant answers on this site, but for the most part, people at least have a bogus website to back-up their silly claims . This site is well-known for it's rough and tumble atmosphere, and an ill-informed person is gonna get a barrage of insults for being stupid, and that usually deters uninformed people to from posting further nonsense(not always though) .
Yahoo's own homepage says it all . Their upper box carries stories about : Grateful Dead and Deadheads, Bill Clinton writing a Crossword puzzle, Dancing with the Stars garbage, etc
While the news stories are about : Cheney's meeting in Iraq, homes evacuated in LA because of wildfires, etc
Do you see it ?

We are all (politics Y!A-ers) obviously interested and involved in the national discussion. We get our news from more sources than MSinBC.
Most of America is apathetic. Hey, if they get their SS check, or welfare check, or satellite tv feed, or foodstamps, or bloated union paycheck, or whatever they are happy.
Ignorance is bliss.
Lots of thumbs-down on this one I bet... :-0

It seems like that America was once the wealthiest country in the world and Americans are very proud to be American. Unfortunately the situation has been changed but some Americans still cannot believe the fact so they want to compare with other countries and hope to find out something to prove that America is still the best.

I have noticed and encountered the rough and tumble atmosphere on this site. I appreciate the diverse opinions but there are some who are very intolerant of anyones opinion which doesn't coincide with theirs. The name calling can and frequently does get totally out of hand. It doesn't seem one can have an opinion opposite of the askers without encountering the name calling. As a former member of a high school debate team I would love to see more tolerance and less derogatory comments. Maybe we could take tips from the students to achieve a more amicable site.

Well don't you think that attacking an individual who is ill informed is a bit ridiculous... I would much more prefer to educate them than to bash them. They go to P&S to have fun and relax, they don't want to get involved with all this harsh, nasty debating. If you go over there and ask a Political question you've just became the ignorant, for posting a serious question in a non serious area. Do you honestly believe that your intelligence is far more superior than people in other categories? HA, well they may not be able to out debate you on politics but that does not mean you are more intelligent than them.....
And in knowing that you know nothing, that makes you the smartest of all!!!! Socrates

You are absolutely right, most posters on Y!A will get eaten alive in Government and Politics, especially in the Politics section,
You will find a generally smarter and also OLDER crowd here.--Though the religion and Spirituality and the Science section have a lot of more mature and smart people as well....
It's not just politics though, when on the other categories, I'm appalled how ill informed people, (adults!) are in general about MANY subjects and also how many adults have poor vocabulary, sentence structure, spelling, grammar, etc.
The young adults and teens who seem to be a slight majority on Y!A at least have an excuse.

Agreed. Funny you should post this question this morning. I was just looking at the Yahoo home page and thinking " Why isn't Cheney's visit to Iraq on top?" (about time btw!) It still amazes me just how many people simply do not have any interest in politics; Especially in this day and age.

I think that we represent a cross-section of people who happen to be interested in politics. That being said, though, not everyone is interested in politics, so you're not likely to find any Yahoo!Answers users who are both interested in and knowledgeable about politics who spend most of their time in the other sections here.

I see it. This section does seem to contain most of the intelligence found in Answers.

Overall I think more passionate, more polarized & less curteous. I see a lot of "facts" that simply aren't true.

I see it too but most adults don't spend their time on Yahoo. It is geared towards teens.
