They can fight for our country, risk their lives but cannot buy a beer. Does it make sense to you? I think think some of the law's are silly and dont correspond with one another. Thank's for your answer's, I will choose the best.

I remember when the age limit to drink was 18, back in the Vietman War time. I agree you you. If they are old enough to die for our country, then they are old enough to drink.

It doesn't make sense at all, you can fight in a war, vote and even get married but cant buy a drink on your wedding night! On the other hand here in the uk you can buy alcohol at 18 and the bars are full of kids all throwing up and fighting in the streets so maybe it is not that bad an idea.

Comparing the service for the country with imbibing alcohol is gross. How can anyone equate the two different things in such a manner. Every child should be ready to lay his life, if need be, for the country but giving him freedom for any kind of vice is totally unacceptable. The laws are made for the general good of the society and not for an individual's fancy.....

Yes, it is ridiculous to allow (17) - 21 year olds kill and be killed in combat because they are deemed so responsible and adult, yet not allow to order a drink.
However, as an Honorably Discharged vet, we were allowed to drink in our barracks on base. Technically, it wasn't legal. If one misbehaved because of the alcohol, they would be in deep, deep trouble.
We wasn't allowed to buy, but others bought it for us.
I can't speak for every base and times are changing so much, probably the bad (those who abused that privilege) made it hard for the good.
Also crazy, men have to have short hair so as not to have lice (makes sense). Why aren't women made to have short hair (are they not susceptible to lice also)?
I'm not too worried about a best answer vote, Yahoo will probably delete this answer and give me a community violation notice before you read it.

I agree, I was 17 when I enlisted in the Marine Corps, and the only way I could drink was the same as being in High School. They would give me an M-16a2 but not a beer, just stupid.

yes, even though I have had a drinking problem since my teens I would allow anyone 18 or older with an armed service I.D. to consume alcohol if they choose to, I would make 19 the legal age for everyone else to avoid high school drunks like I was

Why aren't you complaining about not being able to run for office? We need more ideas there than we do people who drink.

Okay, I don't really believe that.

Bottom line: If we took the legal drinking age away, would you not drive drunk? Would you not hit someone and hurt them? Would you not terrorize young ladies, ex-friends or old folks? These are examples of why the old schoolers have laws like these.

Earn the respect of your elders and you may be able to repeal this.

Actually, I bet when you're older you'll want to lower it even further....

Does seem a little ridiculous, but they can get alcohol just fine, unfortunately.

I just hope they stay in school and learn the difference between pleural and possessive. And country and county.
