It's one of his better books. I found the first half to be fantastic. The second half was just good, not quite as good as the beginning.

I love the book. I read it in high school, and then again sometime later. If you like Stephen King then you should love this book. When I met my future wife she was reading the Stand, I knew she was a keeper. She loves to read King and was very impressed with it. Although it looks intimidating because of the size it's well worth it. There are many charachters and plot twists leading up to an awesome climax. M-O-O-N, that spells read it! All hail Trashcan Man.

The Stand is my favorite Novel of all time and I read all the time. It is even more haunting than a lot of his novels, because this one could actually happen. So YES it's definately worth reading.

It's a good representative of that type of story, a group of people who survive a worldwide disaster, but I think On the Beach by Nevil Shute is the classic of the genre.

I think "Swan Song" by Robert McCammon tells the same story (post-holocaust United States) in a FAR superior fashion with much more fully developed characters. (I actually caught myself sniffling near the end!)

Eh, it was a good read. A little long, but it was good.
The movie was six hours long, I own it, but thats something I only pull out when I want to see a cheap movie that will last forever. lol.
I prefer the book, if you couldnt tell.
