Honestly, we do things differently here in UK. Some of your advice to ppl here is ridiculous. Is this just another US attempt to take over the world?

I guess I should say these are My Own Views, not the views of the entire UK. (Especially not Her Majesty The Queen Of England and our Prime Minister Mr Tony Blair).

However, like the story about the cat being locked indoors to save it from wild animals below, I was amazed by the advise given to some little old lady who had some trouble with her neighbours (english spelling) and was told to march down to the local Police Precinct and demand that the Cheif come up with his gun to put them right.

And the guy who wanted to set up a dog walking business and was told he needed all sorts of trader licenses and tax forms that, if he'd tried to find them in UK, would have taken him a life time.

hey jennifer - deep down, i love you too. lol

The questions are not filtered on Yahoo answers, even though we choose to answer and ask on Yahoo UK and Ireland, we see all English language questions. Unless the asker makes it known that they are in the UK, no-one is to know where they are from. I always answer questions "if you are in the UK ........" I am in Greece but I'm British, but I can answer questions relating to the UK. This cuts both ways, answers we give may not be appropriate for pour American friends. In all fairness, I've received some really useful answers from both UK and USA users, the more the merrier I say.

I agree with a previous answer that UK or US specific questions should be specified by the asker. A recent question on cat ownership received many US responses, many of which, suggested keeping it locked indoors so it doesn't get killed by wild animals. Not a real danger in the UK!

I'm am American and I am not on the UK Answers site. Most of the categories on Answers are displayed on all of the English-speaking answers sites. Many people are not aware that categories are shared between sites, so, just as you assume that they are all on the UK site, some of the Americans assume that you are on the U.S. site. If you want UK answers only, you could indicate this in your question to reduce the number of answers that don't apply to you.

Edit: Someone below suggested selecting "USA Questions only" from the drop down list box. My Answers page has no such drop-down. Sorry.

I am an American, and this is my first UK answer.I don't think that America is trying to take over the world. For those giving out stupid advice to the UK, on there behalf I apologize. But maybe the advice some one gave was just dumb to you but smart for them.I want to know do you speak for all of UK? Because It could be just that your getting bad answers, and not others. Every one can learn from everyone the good and the bad.

Care to provide some examples?

I too have seen wacky advice on here but I would sooner attribute it to youthful lack of experience or misdirected "spirituality" than to country of origin. Perhaps because there are so many Americans on here and also so many wackos that it seems like all the wackos are American. Then again, maybe it's just that you feel general animosity towards Americans.

Because a lot of us Brits go to the American section of Yahoo answers and give them totally inappropriate answers.

Now, sit down have a nice hot cuppa tea and a rich tea biscuit and you feel a whole lot better.

There are you feeling better now?

As America is somewhat larger than the UK it is not too surprising so many are on Yahoo. As for inappropriate advice, just take a look at some of the UK replies (and their questions for that matter). Let's all just carry on enjoying the pleasure of asking or replying and ignoring the stupid ones.

You answered your question yourself. We do things differently over here. I guess if you would answer questions on the US forum, some of your advice might be considered as inappropriate, too.

Can we expect everybody to know exactly how things work over here? How much do we know about how things work over there?

As far as I recall, US never took over the world or tried, in comparison to the Brits, who conquered a number of countries and made them part of the "Empire". And tried to extinct us Scots.

Because they're too thick to select "USA Questions only" from the drop down list box on the US version of Y!A. The default is All English Answers so Y!A UK & I suffers.
