Isn't it too soon to be having this pain? it's not a constant pain, it comes and goes. I feel it mostly when I'm walking. At nights I sleep with a pillow between my legs because it bothers me when i lay down too. I also sleep on my left side(naturally). The pain is mostly on my right side. Did anyone go through this? Do you have any idea how to cope? Is it going to last thru my entire pregnancy? It's not Sciatica is it?

Hi Guys, Thanks for all your answers. i just spoke to a nurse and she says it sounds like "Round Ligament Pains" and not the Sciatica. It's normal, and that's all that matters. Thanks everyone!

It might be sciatica. If you feel it in your lower back and sometimes in your butt or the backs of your legs, those are classic signs.

I get sciatica when pregnant. My midwife told me to relieve pressure on that nerve by sitting perfectly upright in a chair and crossing one leg over the other (man style) and then pushing hard down on that leg.

Do this for the side that is bothering you.

It might last throughout the pregnancy and if it really becomes painful an experienced chiropractor might be able to help.

I don't know if it is sciatica, but I did experience it around 8-9 weeks, and I did the same as you... a pillow between the legs, and also a throw pillow under my lower back (I have a deep sway in my back so it relieves that pressure.)

When I first read your question, I was going to ask you if it was when you walked, like with every step - and then you said that anyway!!! I had this EXACT pain, and everyone told me it was too early too have any back pains, but my doctor told me it is your body kind of loosening up to get ready for the big baby!

It does go away for a while, I didn't experience it for about a month or so... but I am 24 weeks now and I get this pain when I do a lot of work around the house or sit for a long time... Once it comes, there is really not much to do about it... Unless you want to take some tylenol. It never really helps me, but maybe for you!

Good Luck, and congratulations!

You should check this sciatica natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica. Try a reputable chiropractor ASAP!

I think it is sciatica pain. I am almost 9 weeks pregnant, and I had pain like that when I was sitting on the couch the other day. It was a very sharp pain. Whatever side the pain is on lay on the opposite side. So, you are doing the right thing.

Oh yes I have gone through that with each pregnancy...although most women will feel some sort of back pain..it is us lucky few that experience sciatica...the nerves that run from your back down your butt and down your legs...sometimes mine hurt so bad I cannot get up without some major help!!! Some good advise is NEVER EVER lay flat on the floor for any reason!! I was playing with my older son and got stuck as it hurt so bad to get up..I had to get him to get the phone so I could call my mother at work to come over with the spare house key to help me up!!! Mine has mostly been on my left side, but what helps me the most is my tempur-pedic bed! I know those are very expensive, so I would stick with propping myself up with pillows and use a heating pad on your back on a low setting....try and keep your posture good.....and is it going to last your entire pregnancy...well mine has with each pregnancy and it has only gotten worse the bigger I got....good luck though hon...it is truly all worth it in the end!!!

Welcome to sciatica. My youngest is 3 and I still have it. Wait til it runs all the way down your throbbing leg to you toes. Here's what has worked for me: sleep on the opposite side from the pain; try not to sleep on your stomach with that leg bent up (makes it worse). Don't wear high heels. For stretches (these really help), lay on your back and pull that leg up as far as you can with your knee bent (during pregnancy pull it up and towards the other leg); you're trying to stretch your buttock to the inside, not the outside. Also, when laying on your stomach, with your leg straight, turn your toes on that side in. I hope you can visualize these moves! Good luck. After you have the baby, go see a chiropractor!

Ehm..
Sciatica is a pain that results from irritation of one of sciatic nerves. This is a lower back pain that goes down to hip and then to both legs extending to feet and toes in some cases. Sciatica nerve is the largest nerve in our body. Running down the spine through the hip, sciatic nerve goes down to knee and ankle. Any damage or pressure on this nerve results in debilitating sciatica pain that needs thorough investigation of probable causes on the basis of symptoms to provide relief to the patient on a permanent basis.

Sounds like Sciatica. Its pressure on your sciatic nerve, which can be pretty painful. See a doctor, and get referred to a PT. Good luck...I hope you feel better!
