I have no problem with people sharing their experiences and what they believe leads to a successful marriage etc. But why do people make matter of fact statements based on their limited set of circumstances and try to apply it to everyone's situation? I'm specifically referring to things like "Well that has never bothered me so it shouldn't bother your wife" that type of thing.

Why?

And yes I'm mostly venting, so most entertaining/informative answer gets the best answer.

The folks who answer here are mostly dysfunctional themselves. That's all I can say.

It's a long and winding path for most people to discover that character and attitude are key to maintaining high interest in a long-term relationship, and most people never figure it out and either split up or settle for sub-par relationships.

Only really well adjusted people with good character and a positive attitude toward life in general have good relationships. Period. And they mostly never post here.

people like to think they are right. If it doesn't bother them then it shouldn't bother anybody because that would hint that somebody is wrong and they don't want it to be them. It seems like some answers on here come from people who wish they were advice columnists and like you asked them personally for their advice because they have all the answers. It really comes down to personality, you have those who give sympathetic answers and genuinely feel for you, you have those who just want to stir up trouble out of fun for themselves (I call these the bullies). You have those who think they know everything and their way is the only way and so on. You are just choosing to vent about the ones who think their experience is best applied to everyone. I personally like to vent about the ones who think they are better than everyone else.

Venting is a good thing! But keep in mind that especially in this forum usually the advice you receive is worth exactly what you paid for to get it!

Sometimes there are nuggets of wisdom, but usually a lot more worthless information.

A little knowledge combined with the anonymity of the internet is a dangerous thing. Responders are sitting somewhere in their own little space feeling the power of being able to tell some stranger how to live their life. It's a pretty heady thing.

Hmmmm...I think because people tend to share what works for them..and thats all they know so they think thats what goes. If it worked for me, it will work for you type thing. Alot of people cat think outside the box I guess.
And, people like to share their own stories anyways.
People also know their own feelings and emotions on things, so they sometimes can think everyone else feels the same way.
But, because everyone has had different experiances, I think it is just about impossible to feel the same way exactly as some one else.

I think its because some people see it as wives vs. husbands. (I know I do sometimes) And their experience (along with their friends) says I don't get upset when my husband does this...this other woman must not either or should not either. But isn't that what this forum is for, for us to share our thoughts, opinions and for us all to vent from time to time. I know I'm looking for other people's thoughts and opinions to help me understand things that I'm curious about.

Well, my experience is...no, let me back up. (Sorry).

Seriously, isn't it amazing how many folks out there really believe their life experiences and consequently their advice are far more valuable than it actually is?

I'm really new at this site, but I find myself shaking my head at some of the stuff these people write.

Keep venting...helps keep you sane...at least that's my experience...no, let me back up.

Because we are right and you are wrong. The things we have done far out weigh what you have done. You should just do what we tell you to do over the internet.
