I am sure there are some platonic guy/girl frienships but it is really rare. Yes, feelings will arise and there will be some jealousy here and there, but alot of people I know that were in relationships started off as being friends. The only way I think a platonic relationship can last with the opposite sex is if one/both of the persons is/are gay.

I am sure it is possible, at least for a while. But at some point one or the other will start having more than platonic feelings.
I think when you get really close to someone, really know them, the probability of falling in love rises. But is that a bad thing?

of course they can b. till this date i hav had a few good n close 'guy" friends n my relationship with each has been 101% platonic. its almost like with the girls except tht u cant talk about clothes with em or go shopping etc. there is a lot of difference b/w having a "boyfriend" (in the sense tht u have a love or lust or whichever affair) and having a friend who is a boy.

Just remember that platonic friendships may or may not stay platonic forever. People's maturity, needs, feelings and wants do change over time.

Most definitely. I don't see why relationships have to revolve around sex. That is so stupid. I have many friends that are girls whom I would never consider anything but best friends. One of my closest friends is a girl, and we consider ourselves very good friends, to the point where I respect even her boyfriend. So yes it's very possible, and it's better to have a variety, for instance not all guys or girls.

Yes, You can be close as long as you keep your distance because you may end up liking him. So set some boundaries. My best friend is a guy and he knows to much about me, but we've never though of each other sexually.

yes i do ... two of my best friends are male, both of them actually ended up being my husbands groomsmen (as they wouldn't wear dresses and be my bridesmaids ;) ) .
One of them was even by birthing partner for my first child.
i even dated both of them, but we decided that we were better as friends.. we have talked honestly about if anything else had happened, and it just never went there, on both sides.
It is the same as having a gay friend. (same sex as you).. doesn't mean that you want to sleep with each other..
A friend is a friend.. no matter what form they come in :) however saying that.. if they have obvious unrequited love for you..that could get difficult with future relationships. :)

Theoritically possible but practically very difficult. It is a very thin bridge that seperates platonic with sexual and it may break at any point of time!!

It works for some people - but it's a waste of effort for a guy like me. Can't invest time in a woman without, somewhere at the back of my mind, expecting it to get physical someday. Only relatives are out of bounds - any other woman is fair game
