As already mentioned, The Commonwealth Games created a scheduling conflict with having the Australian Grand Prix start the season... as such it was pushed back to the third race; moving this time in reverse geographical order from to end the inital fly-away dates in Australia, and thus avoid the schedule conflict.

They did not start with australia as usual because they wanted to experiment Barain since it was quite a promising track in the past 2 years.
