I have two red caps (goldfish) living in an aqarium in my room. One at the moment has a 4mm diameter, green dot growing. Any idea what this is? And how do I treat/stop it? Should I separate my 2 fish?

Until you know what you are dealing with, it's always a good idea to separate a potentially diseased fish. To help you get to the bottom of the problem, please add some additional information. How long have you had the fish? Have you recently added any other fish to the tank? Where on the fishes body is the spot? Does the spot appear to be in top of the scales or under them? Is there any redness or swelling around the spot? Any other details about the appearance of the spot that you find unusual? Is the spot light green or a very dark green?

We need the answers to those questions to be able to move forward.

Green dot? like a moldy dot? My first question would be what is the water quality like? the ammonia levels? Is he eating and acting normal? Where is the dot? Close to the fins or close to the belly?

There are a few questions that need answered before one can even begin to guess what it could be.

Feel free to email me and I will try to help you narrow it down.
