so far all the answers are from bitter and twisted englishmen and french lovers, for those who have followed ireland since the last world cup will know that the team has improved immensley since then have been unfairly treated by some referees for instance the game versus france, on more than one occassion france should of been down men but as usual they were allowed to carry on. the game versus south africa was one of absolute bliss ireland took them apart all game, yes they do have inconsistances but i think the world cup will see the real team any comments

andy englishman i dont necessarily agree the young ones that are reaching the squad now are more than able i think the problem is no one including the irish ever really get far enough behind the team to push them on and thats why they sometimes falter but i think we will see champions this year i really do

yes i think we can, new zealand have had the best team going into every world cup and choked every time bar the first if we can get our first team together with no injuries we can beat them and ireland and newzealnd cant be in the final only one we will either meet in the quarters or the semis (providing we qualify of course)

Who knows if I did I would bet lots of money on it.

Seriously though, this is the best chance that they have ever had. They certainly have the talent and experience to challenge the big boys of world rugby and on their day would prove a good match for anyone.

You have to say that NZ, Australia and France will be the forces to stop although South Africa always have potential to shock, interesting to see how Argentina play this year too.

As for Ireland, it's up to them, can they be consistent on the greatest stage of all. You cannot fail to recognise that they do have talent right through the team and arguably one of the best back lines in world rugby.

I am an Englishman so although I am not looking for to the world cup because I think it will be the shortest ever defence with the holders going out in the first rounds. However I would love Ireland to be the next holders of the cup and keep it in the Northern Hemisphere with a home nation.

I think that Ireland are an excellent team at present. They deserve to be in the final, and probably will be.

Unfortunately, everybody is miles behind NZ and I can't see anybody coming close to them, can you?

For me, Ireland are number two in the world, but just fall short of winning the trophy. I think that if you were to be neutral for a moment, you would agree?

Ireland's problem will be that so many of the key players will retire. together, after the world cup. Don't you agree?

No they won't. They aren't anywhere near New Zealand's level, no one is. The only one I can see beating NZ is France but that's only if they have one of their special games, that they sometimes have against the Southern Hemisphere games. I think Ireland are good enough to beat any other team in the tournament but I can't see them getting close to the all blacks.

Oh the craic!!

The Irish are average - even more so without O'Driscoll. For years England dominated the 5 Nations and never made a dent on the World Cup (until 2003!). So, one good season for the Patricks means ZERO.

Paddies to go out in the quarters.

unlikely
as this years 6 nations showed ireland have an ability to choke at the last minute

see france game for example
