Why 6o'clock is called 6ish?

They don't mean the same thing. 6 o'clock means 6:00:00 -- a particular point in time. "6ish" means "about six" -- like plus or minus 10-15 minutes.

when will that be? 6ish? 7ish? to me it means, about a certain time, give or take a bit... the ish bit would be the give or take...

one-ish, two-ish...six-ish, eleven-ish etc....are all commomly used to mean 'around this time'
