you have to answer these questions coolly...................
the shopkeeper returned them equal money of Rs.2/- each,correct..................
but the Rs.50/- they paid was not equally shared by them ,remember?????????(it was Rs.60/- that was equally shared, not Rs.50/-
i.e.,of the 50,2 contributed Rs.16/- each and the other RS.17/-
then each were given extra 2 rupees,so that amounted to Rs.56 and the shopkeeper had Rs.4/-..................
That makes it Rs.60,right?????????????
next time you think on a problem, check out the situation clearly and then solve, gud luck.....................

Their original contribution of 20 each got divided into the following: 50 rupees with the shop owner, 4 rupees with the assistant and 6 rupees back with the boys. The addition and subtraction should be done on the right side.
20 + 20 + 20 = 60 = 50 + 10 = 50 + 4 + 6 and 20 + 20 + 20 - 6 = 54
18 + 18 + 18 = 54 = 50 + 4

New twist on an old riddle. It seems there is a missing 2 rs. You don't add the 4 to the 54 to try to get 60. You subtract 4 from the 54 to get 50, the correct amount for the shoes. Just a matter of putting a number in the wrong column, a mistake made more likely by the way the riddle is constructed. It seems like a mystery, but isn't.

rs 54 already includes the money that the staff has stolen!
bcoz the boys are told the shoes are worth rs 54, so you cant add the 4 rupees that the staff has again to that 54.
To that 54, you gotta add the rupees 6 that the boys got back, so 54 + 6 its 60!!!
this is a trick question to confuse people ;) good stuff !!!

There is an error in logic here.
The store received Rs 60 but gave a Rs 10 refund, so it received Rs 50 net.
The boys paid Rs 60 but got a refund of Rs 6 so they paid Rs 54 but they should have got a further refund of Rs 4 so their net purchase should be Rs 50 too.
Your apparent paradox arose because you ADDED Rs 54 to Rs 4 to give a meaningless total of Rs 58 whereas you should have deducted Rs 4 from Rs 54 to give you the net purchase amt of Rs 50. This way, there's no missing Rs 2

Rs. 54.00 *includes* the Rs 4.00 that the sales guy stole.
You told this all wrong.
3 guys want to buy a TV for $55.
They each pay $20.
The storekeeper gives them $5 change.
They each get $1 and there is $2 left over.
So, if they each have paid $19 and 3*$19 = $57, and there is only $2 left over, where did $1 disappear to?

That's inflation for you! Money just disappears!
:)
Seriously though: The money didn't go anywhere, it still adds up correctly (60). The story is just adding and subtracting the wrong way. That is why it is important to follow the rules of mathematics.
