In '97 I had back surgery with rods being put in & spinal fusion, healed with no problems. 2 months ago I was in a severe MVA & screwed up my back. I have no primary physician & the ER referred me to a one, who referred me to a chiropractor do to my back surgery. I'm being treated by the him 3x per wk & also recieving phys therapy. I'm out of work & have no money, however the car insurance is paying for my treatment. I haven't had no pain for about a month really. My upper back back just right of my spine start killing me about 3AM Tuesday & been hurting since. I'm literally crying from pain. The chiropractor examed me yesterday & said if I'm still in pain let him know today when I go in, which I plan to. It feels like one of my rods is pushing on the skin, however my Xrays from the MVA didn't show anything wrong with my rods, I haven't did anything to cause the pain & nothings wrong visually, also have tingling/itching sensation where pain is. Any ideas on what may be wrong?

Since I know some people are against chiropractors & there treatment I'm going to just make it clear that the chiropractor I go to is not a quack and is very skilled & knowledgeable about what he is doing. He uses an electronic pro-adjustor instead of the old popping way, has an actual physical therapist that works in the office with him, a PT assistant, and works along with an MD's. He has xray equippment in his office to properly diagnose his patients & does refer his patients to specialists if he can not treat their conditions. So please no answers about how I need a real doctor, I shouldn't be seeing a chiropractor, that it doesnt' help, etc. I'm confidant my chiropractor will tell me what my problem is, I'm just looking for some answers on here since I'm in soo much pain I can't stand it & don't have my appointment for another 4 hours.

Sounds like neuropathic pain: tingling, itching, that means the nerves are misfiring. I take lyrica find that good.

I am no medical expert but my huisband and I have both had a lot of back pain and problems due to injuries. One thing I have learned is that where there is severe unrelenting pain there is a cause. I have also learned that you do not have to really do anything to a hurt back for it to have additional problems. Just sleeping in a position that unconsciously puts pressure on a certain place, sneezing, even a big yawn can cause something to slip. Therefore I would suggest you ask for new xrays or even MRI. The issue here is not a new back injury but a new problem manifesting as a result of the MVA and possibly as a result of treatment for the MVA. My best guess is something has slipped to where there is or was pressure on anerve or injury to a nerve but since I am not a medical expert and since I can see no physical data on your back I can't make a good guess even what slipped or gave. But I can tell you you are well within your rights to insist that they find out what and also to ask for pain med even if that means a trip back to the MD.

I just saw your add'l info. Just want to tell you that I am in favor of chiropractic care especially Grostic Chiropracty and the kind you mentioned. (I am not a fan or the pressure and force it to pop school) and that I think you made a good point that it was the MD who referred you to the Chiro. Our physician says that today informed practitioners are seeing it is not "either or" but "both and" when it comes to this sort of situation.

Does it help any to lie on your back woth a rolled pillow pr towel under your neck and a couple of pillows under your knees? That brings me a lot of relief at times. So does gentle massage by hubby and sometimes curling up on one side helps too. I know it is really hard to wait for relief.
