Are you sometimes irritated by this endless chain of thoughts? Have you ever been able to stop it, even for a minute or two?

Mind never stops. The process of thinking goes on. The subconscious works while at sleep. But a conscious effort can channelise the thoughts in a constructive direction. There can be a respite when you meditate.

I am constantly irritated by my brain refusing to shut down even for a second or two. I can numb it with alcohol but I wouldn't suggest that as a healthy option. Right now I am wondering why I'm even thinking about this but you've piqued my interest and I have to do something to keep my brain occupied. TV seems to be a good way to relax the mind as long as I'm not watching anything too in depth. Something like The Simpsons is a good option. However, I wonder if shutting down our brains is really the best way to go. I don't wan't to become another one of those mindless zombies who go about their lives as if they are of no importance. You know what they say, ignorance is bliss. That probably IS true but in that case what was the point of being born in the first place. I believe that people like you and me have been blessed with intelligence and we are obliged to make the best use of it. Imagine if Einstein had have made a conciencious decision to shut off his thought patterns. How much poorer would the world have been?( not that I'm comparing either of us to Einstein!) We have a duty to make full use of what we have been given for the benefit of all mankind. One of us is going to come up with the answer to all of lifes issues. We can't ignore that fact. As usual though, nothing good comes without it's own price. We have to put up with the constant, endless thoughts about everything! As I said earlier though, consider the alternative. It's a double edged sword but we have a responsibilty to everyone else on the planet. Please don't think that I believe that I am going to solve all the worls problems single handed, but someone is and that person will have the same irritating, never shut down brains that we do. Anyway, good luck in the future and I hope your the person who saves us all! God knows we need it! Take care.

Oh GREAT !
This is the question that led to a person to attempt to evolve into the highest ever possibility for a human being.
The perception would deepen far beyond just the sense organs, as soon as the thought process stops even for a minute.
The greatest of renowned masters have offered this possibility through their teachings.
Spirituality is just all about that !
And, the 'irritation' happens when any thought is not conclusively 'dealt'.... what we call as unsolved problems (atleast the judgement part in our mind, either way ). This happens when the logical aspect of the mind reaches almost a dead end.

Yes!!! Beyond irritated. It feels like a prison sometimes...so constrictive n tiring. I've looked for the OFF button but so far, no good...
It's totally illogical for these thoughts to be going on so much....n half the time the ones that are there are not even connected to anything that I'm doing at the time..n most are not rational. It's insane.
I can't stop it...but thoughts have stopped for me b4 out of the blue, but only briefly...this is rare.

Nice to know that it happens to you.Do some meditation or if not that just simply sit alone and take 20 deep breaths in and out counting them. You'll break the chain of thoughts and get a bit of peace.Well during the whole day atlest five minutes let things happen as they do and you become the observer.Just see how one person walks and how the other shouts and how the other watches tv.just observe as if you're watching a movie.Your mind will definitely make its own way out.best luck friend.

Thinking seems to be diffrent than real action. If it is so then a man in action may stop thinking at least for some time. All those who donot do real work may be cought up in endless thinking. Such a stage prove to be very harmful when it adversely affects one's sleep and thus the efficiency for doing real work. Deep thoughts and studies may also adversely affect one's speaking fluency.

'when thinking stops that's the end of a life.Thought process is an in built one which when used in the right time at the right place with a balanced mindset can create wonders for ones own self and for others. If u act first n think later u may regret the action through out Ur life and may not be fortunate enough to get an opportunity to rectify the same.Think twice thrice..and then act--only that would smoothen the passage of one's life in any stage of life and in any part of life.
We should be grateful to the Creator as we are the only beings who have been bestowed with the Art of Thinking.Use it with discretion to the full potential so that the possibility of errors are diminished to a large extent.
Unthought words and actions always leave a trail of hurt and damage in the world use ur thought process to make this world a blissful place to live.

Not particularly, If you do, then maybe it's not thinking you are tired of, But the Particular thought or thoughts in question that you are sick of. I'm not tired of thinking, and I'm sure you aren't either tho. I'm sure no one else gets tired of thinking either.
And yes I am able to Stop the chain whenever I want. There is a Key to it. It's really simple. It's called sleep. Stop thinking, start dreaming.
Enjoy.

Sometimes I do get tired of thinking. Most of the time my mind won't stop. However this can be good if you think the right kinds of things and refuse to let your mind run away with negative thoughts or just thoughts that are a waste of time. If I must think I try to think about things that are positive and or changes I can make to improve myself and those around me. I believe this is where the statement somes "you are your own worst enemy and I refuse to be my own worst enemy.

I believe that aimless thinking or wandering thoughts do not tire us... similarly reflex thoughts or active thoughts (i.e.relating to actions to be taken at the moment) also do not tire our mind. We however do get tired of high purpose and focussed thinking, such as is involved in problem solving, deep planning etc.
