Is it when you get physical with someone else other than your spouse? Or once you actually develop a much deeper relationship with that person?

It would be when you decide you want to have that intimate relationship with someone other than your spouse. It may take other forms but when your mind goes there it is done.

For sure once sexual touching starts. But other than that I think an affair is the "secret" that's being kept.

If you just have lunch every day with your coworker that would be just fine but as soon as you keep it a secret from your spouse or lie about it then it's an affair..a secret affair.

As long as you tell your spouse and nothing is a secret I think you can get very close emotionally and it wouldn't be an affair. It would be a very close emotional relationship that my husband knows about and is ok with me having this go-to person in my life.

When it has turned into something sexual. A emotional affair can also be as devastating to a marriage, because although it has not escalated into sex, it is a dependency on someone outside the marriage that takes the place of a relationship between a husband and a wife.

Well both are considered affairs..namely :
1) Physical affair.. where sex is concerned..
2) Mental affair -- where emotional attachement and fantasy occurs..

Either one of this happens, it does damaged in a mariage relationship.. so take care..
One always say sometimes it is the thought that is more dangerous then it actually happen..

Actually there are emotional affairs and physical ones. Emotional ones happen when you begin dressing nicer for the person at work and flirting...Nothing ever happens but you're playing with fire. Physical ones are....well physical. Having your needs/desires meet by someone other than your partner.

An affair...having any inappropriate dealings with someone else besides you significant other. This would include, fondling, kissing, sex (dead give away), emotional bonding and spending time with someone who you are not in the relationship with. If you feel that what you are doing with someone else is wrong and you start feeling guilty and know that your mate would be pissed...definitely the start of an affair.

An affair is when you see another person behind your spouse's back. You don't have to be in love, just having sex, or getting close enough to have sex.
