I think it is time to call for a complete ban on the use of IPOD's and MP3 players in public places. Most people can’t use them responsibly and are a public nuisance. They are also a health risk as they increase the stress levels of commuters forced to overhear them on crowded trains, so ban them on health grounds.

We are now a nation who enjoys banning things so I would like to see this next on the list.

I have to agree IF you can hear the persons music. If it's not audible then I don't care. I do think it's a danger though because you could walk right out into traffic not hearing anything but the music in your head. While we are at it, can we ban bluetooth headsets? You end up standing next to someone, they start talking and you think its to you , then they start pointing at their ear and you realize they are on the phone. I hate that!

I think Ipods and mp3s are ok if used sensibly. What I want to see a ban on is playing music out loud from a mobile phone. I was on a bus for 50 mins the other day listening to two songs from the kids behind me. One song was Love me or hate me by Lady sovereign, the other was a hardcore version of the braveheart theme tune. BOTH of which I liked before that journey, now i cant stand them!

Make wearing headphones the law!!

1. How many artists (what I mean by 'artists' are bands and singers, btw) do you have on your iPod/iTunes/mp3 player? - 329 2. How many songs? - 4,033 3. Albums? (they don't have to be full albums, btw) - 627 4. Genres? - 40 5. Playlists? - 17 6. Do you think you listen to a wide range of rock bands? Provide an example. (Here's mine: I listen to everything from Nirvana to Nightwish to Radiohead to Green Day to Deep Purple to Creedence Clearwater Revival to Megadeth) - I think I do. In my library, I have everything from The Beatles to Bauhaus to Opeth to Muse to Thursday to My Dying Bride, and a variety of others. 7. All-Time Favorite Band - Saves the Day 8. All-Time Favorite Musician - I don't really have one particular favorite musician, but for the purpose of your question, I will say Andrew McMahon. 9. All-Time Favorite Song - "This is Not an Exit" by Saves the Day 10. All-Time Favorite Album - "Stay What You Are" by Saves the Day BQ: I asked this question yesterday: What are some bands/singers popular with the general public but not on R&P? I never hear much about Three Dog Night or The Beach Boys or Bright Eyes, all of which I love.

That argument is silly, people have been doing the same thing with their cell phones for a longer time, cell phone conversations are almost always more audible than someone listening to an MP3 player, and cell phones have not seen widespread bans yet. So, why should iPods and MP3s be banned?

I think we should go Amish - ban all electrical devices, What the hell - let's go Stoneage and ban the wheel.

We are forced to commute for hours to hold a job and pay the bills - a little distraction helps. Yes some people overdo the volume, but is it fair to punish everyone for that? Do you want to go back to the 80's when public transport was quieter than a library and people spent their time avoiding eye contact

The majority of mobile phone manufacturers are now finding that it isn't so difficult to incorporate mp3 into mobile phones so I think it won't be long befor the `ipod` craze is replaced with mobile phones.

This will then make it near on impossible to ban them - and what makes it worse is that we will then be surrounded by noisy MP3 players that people talk to aswell! :p(

You sound like you didn't have your cigarrettes and are whinging about it here.

This time around when i went to London I saw a place with a sign up saying that Mp3s and ipods get snatched there telling pedestrians to be aware. I was shocked, that they would even up a sign warning people. Then again, I dont live in London
anymore.

Don't ban, use responsibly !

I came to know that some company has invented a headphone set that can cancel-out out side noise and lets only the music to be heard. This could be banned at some places.

What's next? Ban crying babies? What about blind people? They have that annoying tapping stick. How about people with coughs? They always annoy the Hell out of me. And clicky high heels? And BO? Fluorescent lights are stressful. And so is traffic noise. Lets just ban the morning commute altogether!

I wish we could ban them in the high school where I work. Along with mobile phones. If the kids can't/won't focus, how on earth are they ever, ever going to get ahead. The smart go-getters don't use them, just the rest.
