Hello, This is my first question on here, I just want to ask, I have trained to be a graphic and web designer for about 6 years now, and about 4 years before that in school and stuff, after I finished my college courses and all other learning I got the job I've got now.
In my current job I work as a webmaster for a shop in warwick and I was just wondering if you guys thought I was being stupid getting this pissed with it, all I seam to do all day in re-name 2000 images switching lower case letters for upper case ones. I just feel like there has gotta be a better job than this, I've trained, done my time, and I get lumbered with this for some reason. I hope I have explained this properly, but I have the skills to make full size corporate websites, and I have my own company in the background which I am trying to make work, I don't understand why the people who employ me now only give me jobs like "re-name 2000 images" it doesn't seam reasonable.

I think I may have lead some people to think that the company I work for is bigger than it actually is, The Company I work for is owned by a company called gwynne consultancy and it is at base only two people, a man and his wife. The hope for networking is dead. I in fact found out just recently when everyone was out of the office that they we're planning to hire someone to do another site for the company, which severely pissed me off. The owners are useless, they bicker like children, and shout and scream at each other when clients are about. it really is pathetic, thanks for the moral support everyone. I am trying to find more work but as people here have said, the I.T market is oversaturated with people with skills and I don't think I'm skilled enough to move from here

GeeGee, I will explain further about the re-naming thing, I get up at 6:00, Get dropped off where I work at 8:00 and don't start till 9:00, when I get in, I take the images that are not working on the online shop, the reason they don't work is because the people who made the site were rubbish and didn't have a clue, so when they uploaded the pics they messed up, my boss' got miffed, shoved the whole job onto me, and the problem was when they uploaded them some of the images were for instance e8890.jpg when they have to be E8890.jpg and for the web to find them they have to be exactly right, so I get the database, make sure the image references all have the correct case, i.e E not e, then I change the images to be the same. its some fun stuff. not.

Cheers

The problem is any 10 year old can do what you do--so if you complain--they will find another to do it. Computer techs and masters are stuffed in a box with no hope of ever seeing the light. The only way to make money is to own the company. So expand yours--be the guy that everyone wants to deal with. pound the pavement---do unique ads for your business. Never say NO. I used to have a sign shop---hand lettered anything---trucks, boats, watertowers, billboards, stores, menus---I mean anything--now it is all vinyl computer cut stick on stuff----a thousand instant sign shops with no business---they are saturated and the initial outlay was 100,000 dollars. They are going broke----I could still do a job or two a day by hand and make 5 or 6 hundred in a few hours---not many do what I do....REAL artwork--not computer stuff.
You better network in that company and let them know you are there---have lunch with the right people--get talking and let them see you do what it is you want to do---volunteer to help with a project---the old story of right place at the right time.....go get them !!! Relax, smile and Good luck

Mate it isnt stupid its normal, it happens. I have had moments of boredom at work and in my position I will be soon actively looking for another job. I am studying a social work degree and I am not that far from finishing it.

It seems to me you either want to get a job which has more opportunities with your skill level or change jobs.

I have been told your meant to be happy at work. Which is a value I dont mind agreeing with I tell you lol.

I have been studying social work in the hope that I can have a job that I really enjoy.

However I sense that I wont be working a great deal in this area but veering off somehow as I do not share all the interests of that which i am taught.

Despite my love for people and a want to help them.

I hope you find happiness in your future career and thanks for sharing your story I dont feel like I am the only one lol.

If you would like maybe we can chat some time on yahoo I am from australia.

Your question is well-put.
When you are just starting out you get stuck with all the most boring jobs no one else wants. You have to earn your way up. Do politely ask your boss for more challenging assignments and more fun jobs, too. Be sure to not let your frustration and anger at your current assignments creep into your voice in your discussions. That will telegraph your boss that you are ready to run, and they may preemptively strike, firing you.Keep working on your own business, but be sure you can afford your medical benefits from your own business before you quit this one.

You're definitely overqualified for the job you're currently doing. You either need to talk to your boss and explain your job satisfaction needs to him/her, or get another job, perhaps in the city you might find more challenging roles - or choose a larger company that you can work your way up in - if you're that bored, don't stick around for too long if things don't change - you'll only get even more bored and that's not the ideal workplace. You've trained for it so get out there and do some work that you deserve to do. Go for it - speak up for yourself and have some confidence in your ability to make a change in your worklife.

Life is whatever you want it to be. It sounds like you feel you're not living up to your potential, so tell 'em to stick it if they don't have faith in you!!
Use your work time to search for other jobs, just don't get caught. If you DO like the job you have but just wish you had more responsibility, then approach someone about it - but be smart with WHo you approach (and make sure you have a back-up job in mind-that's when those hours searching the web for jobs in your qork time comes in handy).
Life's too short, go for the jugular!!

Be grateful U still got a job to work with and have a good stable pay too. There are many unlucky ones who do not have a job yet.

Wow... from the way you're talking about your situation, you pretty piss. Based from your background you seemed to have been doing more heavy loaded task than just re-naming objects. I very much agree with how you're feeling right now, but then again what you describe sounded so brief about naming objects. Mind being more precise in your description. Thanks.

fairly frankly, I agree along with your husband. you're unwilling to purpose new issues, so why could he be expected to? you in basic terms decide to purpose what you prefer. I think of you chortle off or shoot down his recommendations comparable to he does yours? Compromise would not advise you get what you prefer and he gets screwed (or not, to that end). flow out and get some lube and the smallest anal plug you will locate. I guess you he gradual dances with you once you tutor that form of initiative and exuberance.
