Connect the two computers through thier ethernet port (use a crossover cable) and then utilize the Internet Connection Sharing feature of XP to share the internet connection on both PCs.

Yeah, lots of ways... at least 2.

1) Get a DSL box with ethernet connections and make sure both PCs have ethernet ports... plug 'em both into the DSL box.

2) Get both PCs with an Ethernet port, connect together by crossover ethernet cable, use Internet Connection sharing (ICS) to share the internet connection from the one with the DSL box to the other one. Disconnect the unused DSL box from the computer. If you look up ICS in Windows Help it gives you a step-by-step way of using ICS.

(1) costs more but is more flexible. (2) is cheaper but means the PC with the DSL box plugged in has to be on for the 2nd PC to get to the web.

the simplest way is you need a router with a built in switch (like a hub but better). You will run a wire from your DSL or Cable modem to the WAN or Internet plug on the router. then you will just plug in each computer to the switch (RJ45 ports) on the router. you should not have to install any software it should just work (read your instructions though some companies make you run through some crap that should be automated). If not go to the control panel, Internet options, connections (later you can make sure automatically detect settings is set in here through the LAN settings button), click setup. this will bring you to the connection wizard. select connect to the Internet, setup my connection manually, connection that is always on. if you can not run wires to each PC then you will need a router with built in wireless. get a wireless network card for those PC's install the drivers. make sure your wireless access point in the router is turned on (from a wired PC, type the routers IP address into Internet explorer without the Http://)(look in your manual to find this number it will look similar to 192.168.0.1. search for available wireless connections (click wireless icon by your clock that wasn't there before you installed the drivers) look for your SSID and select. if you need to connect more PC's wired to your router just but a Ethernet Switch, run a wire out to the uplink port (daisy chain). you can daisy chain enought to hook something like around 255 computers but your DSL will be super slow by then ; )

pass on the spot then you definitely received't have all those cables. Linksys has an exceedingly good router that hooks on your modern-day DSL line and also you'll have 4 cables or it is going on the spot so that you haven't got all those awful cables. it really is in hassle-free words about $50 and in case you pass on the spot you are able to take your computing device everywhere in the abode. I even pass outdoors on the porch even as it really is effective. We used to have cables everywhere in the floor and we had to stay interior of an similar room after we were making use of our laptops. we've the on the spot hooked as a lot because the significant laptop and we take our laptops throughout. it really is tremendous and all laptops have the flexibility to envision a on the spot connection in very jiffy. in view that we sometime have 4 laptops going jointly it quite works tremendous for us. First thorugh the first system connect the phone jack and cofigure your internet. Then connect the second system to the first system through Universal Serial Bus. When u connect it, the first system will show "New Connction / Hardware found". Clicking Ok and allow connection, the second system will auto-configure itslef for the internet seetings.

I have tried with desktop and a laptop... probably it must work within desktops too. I ran Windows Xp in both systems.

Try it out and see.

first, let me tell you that, it is very strange that you have 2DSL modems, i thought service providers supply you only with 1 MODEM.
The best, and cheapest way to fix your problem is to ask your service provider, to give you another DSL modem with more than 1 ethernet port (modem+hub), (usually they come with 4 ports, so you can connect 4 pcs), some companies give you the new modem or for free, or for a very small fee.

I heartily agree with pltnz64 with his answer to your question. For me, I think the most practical way to connect your two (or more) PCs on your room is to buy a good, and decent router for yourself. Also, if you are ready and planning to buy a router for your PCs, I recommend that you also have to consider buying it with a built-in firewall unto it so you can protect your PCs and have a peace of mind. Happy surfing! :-)
