What are the rules for matching ties to shirts? Most of my shirts are fitted but, I have never had to wear ties with them. Most shirts have patterns or stripes. Should I pick out ties that are solid for striped shirts? Do I try to find a color that is in the shirt and try to bring it out or are they not supossed to match exactly? I just got a new job and have to start wearing ties. THANK YOU!

If your shirt has designs on it like dot, stripes or anything else than pick solid ties. You don't want your tie to be contrast with your shirt. If shirt is plain or solid color pick ties with designs on them like stripes. Don't pick colors that are too contrast on these either. Mix and match color to make you look alive. To make you stand out than the rest. Like a green ice cream shirt with a blue tie (any blue tie - striped, dotted or whatever pattern but make sure tie is with other colors as well like green and blue) ones you get the hang of it it's pretty cool and fun to do. I do it all the time for my husband. He has his own business and needs to wear a suit and since I started shopping for him he gets lots of compliments.

this would look great on a gray shirt as well. I guess you can go on the color by looking at the smallest color that is on there http://www.neckties.com/products/MjI0ODE2/kenneth_cole_bembry.html

on a white shirt, or a shade that will be lighter than the tie. You don't want the same creamy color as this then your tie wont show as much. Well I hope you get the idea as you can tell I love shopping.

my best advice would be to go with solid shirts and find pretty patterned ties that have the color of the shirt within.

if the shirt is patterned then a solid tie that has one of the shirt's colors would be good.

i would try to match the colors exactly to what is in the shirt.

it might be good also to buy a few shirts and ties at the same time as well. that way you can be certain they match. new jobs merit a new wardrobe if there is some money available.

For a striped shirt I would wear a solid tie. Two diff. patterns against each other will look too busy. So just go with the "opposites" rule (striped shirt-solid tie or solid shirt striped-tie).

Also look up a complementary colors chart on the net. Your shirt and tie don't have to be the same color to look good together. There are complementary colors like blue & brown that I think would look nice in a tie-shirt combination.

the best thing thing is that the tie should be lighter of your shirt if you wear darkish shirts but is you use white shirts you wear tie that is darker than the shirt. the important is the tie should be noticed immediately. and if you want to be a model person wearing tie. make sure its the same color and trend of you shrit but its totally informal. im a businessman, so i know what color should fit in.
