I aggree with Sofia. 10 days in Athens is a lot, but Thessaloniki is far (6-7 hours in pullman) from here (I live in Athens). Try Olympia, Delphi or Nafplio (2-3 hours from Athens). Great places. You will see the place where the Olympic Games were born (Olympia), the place where Pythia spoke with her famous oracular statements (Delphi) and the first capital of Greece (Nafplio). In ancient times, Delphi was the site of the most important oracle, dating into prehistoric times as a site for the worship of Gaia and in classical times, converted to that of the god Apollo.
You may find it expensive, but I don't know exactly the "equality" euro-dollar.
In Athens you could visit Akropoli, Lycabetus, the museums, Thisio, Plaka, Monastiraki, Mikrolimano, Pireo e Piraiki. At Piraiki you could eat some fish.
For night life, you could go to Paraliaki. It's our avenue, close to the sea, with many bars and clubs. Beautiful!
This place is great day or night!
I hoped I helped you.

10 day holiday just in athens is a long time , I would suggest maybe visiting a island or going to Thessaloniki which is the second largest city very beautiful and there is great beaches to see Halkidiki is just an hour from there and too expensive. . You need about 4 Days in Athens and that's it.

It is rather expensive, but there are many options in terms of budget. There are lots to see, but I would suggest that in 10 days you have enough time to visit Athens and make some day trips to nearby interesting places, such as Nafplio and Mycenae, or Aegina, or Delphi and Hosios Loukas monastery, or evena week-end on a nearby island (Syros, Andros, etc.).
