First of all, you need to know a little bit about the menstrual cycle. You probably know that a woman gets her period once a month. About two weeks after her period starts, the woman ovulates--that means she releases an egg. The egg then travels down the fallopian tubes towards the uterus. If it doesn't run into any sperm along the way and get fertilized, the egg leaves the woman's body and she has her next period like usual.
The sperm, for their part, swim up to the fallopian tubes from the vagina and hang around looking for an egg. Usually, the sperm need to be released inside the vagina to make it up there. Sometimes, if the sperm are released very, very near to the mouth of the vagina, they can find their way inside. But this is very unusual.
A woman is fertile--meaning she can get pregnant--while an egg is in the fallopian tube. The sperm can live inside a woman for up to 5 to 7 days, so it's possible to get pregnant when you have sex several days before you ovulate because the sperm will be there already waiting for the egg. Likewise, the egg will survive (unfertilized) 24-48 hours after ovulation, so you can easily get pregnant during that time.
This means women are most likely to get pregnant for the two weeks in the middle of their cycle. In other words, one week after their last period started until one week before their next is the most likely time.
However, women's cycle's can be different! We've told you the "textbook" version of how most women's bodies work, not everyone's. Even though ovulation normally happens in the middle of the month, a woman can ovulate at any time. Many things make our cycles change, including changes in diet, changes in the environment and stress.
So it's never "safe" to have sex unless you do it with a condom.

The 2 year old sleeping in the bedroom down the hall is my proof that you can get pregnant ANY time.
It was the last day of my period, I was on the pill, and we used condoms. And yet, I got pregnant! Dont get me wrong, I'm happy! But its possible to get pregnant ANY time. Countless things can throw off your body, and cause there to be an egg present when you wouldnt normally think there would be. Not to mention that sperm can live for up to 7 days in your body. Even if there is no egg present at the time of sex, if you ovulate within a week of having sex, you can get pregnant by the sperm that is still alive inside you.

Whenever someone's question begins with "can you get pregnant if"
Think of it this way: If it's unprotected sex, it doesn't matter WHEN you did it because you can get pregnant.
Of course, the odds are much higher of you getting pregnant when you ovulate, and for most women that is 1-2 weeks before their period, but ovulation does vary upon the woman and how long her cycle is.
You can also get pregnant while using condoms or birth control (as the little labels tell you) but the odds of that happenning are very slim, but it is possible.
So, it is true that you can get pregnant the day after your period... even before your period, or during your period
:-)

Okay...as they all have said, its possible, but unlikely. Yea, well...I'm not gonna repeat that to ya, you have heard that enough. Anyhow, The most unlikey day to get preg is the middle day during your period. The time that you can almost bet on it is the 13-15th day after your period has ended (counting the last of your period as day one). But like it has been said, everyone is different, but those are the days to have the red flag up or the clothes all on...=D

I wouldn't trust that if you don't want children. A woman's body can speed up ovulation if it senses that sperm is pregnant, and a guy's sperm can last five days in a woman's body. I have a friend who got pregnant on day four of her cycle (day one is the first day you start bleeding), and that's not supposed to be possible at all. Use condoms!

Yes you can. You're never really a hundred percent safe, you can get pregnant before, after and even during your period. So play it safe if you are worried about getting pregnant.

It's not impossible - but unlikely.
Everyone ovulates at different times in their cycle and sometimes a very normal cycle can go a bit haywire occasionally.

You can get pregnant anytime of the month if you don't use protection. Even while you're still on your period. I know because it happened to me. It was the last day of my period, had unprotected sex, and whooo...got knocked up! So use protection EVERYTIME you have sexual intercourse.
