We both dont know anything about baptism or the regulations, she was raised as a Christian but doesnt attend church that much anymore. Do you have to be a certain age to become a godparent? or do you have to be a Catholic?? What are the resposibilites as a godparent? please answer and give me your best advice! thanks

That depends on the faith. I'm not Catholic, but from what little I've studied about them, if you're not, the church won't allow it. For them I *think* you have to be baptized into the church in order to baptize someone else.

You don't have to be a certain age to baptize a baby nor do you have to be a catholic, but some churches prefer you be a member of the church before you get this done. Usually you get a baby christened when they are that young though, and when they get older then they get baptized. Christians and catholics are kind of the same thing. You also don't have to be a certain age to be a godparent. In the churches eyes a godparent is someone who is there for the child as another parent, they say if something should happen to the parents then the godparents are supposed to take over. But don't worry the family will get first dibs on the child. I have 5 godchildren altogether plus 2 of my own and trust me I will gladly let the family take over. But you'll love being a godparent. You can say you have a child without actually having one.

Rules for who can be a godparent are going to vary depending on the church you attend. The person who can best advise you is probably the priest/minister who is going to perform the baptism.
I'm a Methodist. I believe you could be a godparent at 14 in the Methodist church, but I can't tell you about Catholics.

Some churches have different views on baptism. So alot depends on the denomination of the church. But the main idea about being a God-parent is..that if something should happen to the parent of the child...YOU would take responsibility for finishing raising the child! There are also several different views on that too! Some people look at that very LITERALLY... they would take over raising the child. Others view it just as a HONERARY thing. You might not....actaully take over raising the child....but you would just be an influence in it's life! I would say you should see where you friend is coming from and what her ideas are about it. My only thought about you being so young.....is would you want to take full responsibilty for a child at such a young age..if your friend would expect you to take over raising the child...God forbid something would happen???

im 22 and have a 3yr and 16 mnth old both my kids were baptised and i dont really go to church i know it doesnt matter how old a go parent is but the responsabilites are if somthing were to happen to there mother the god parents are supposed to help raise the child do stuff with the child help pay for the baptisam party go to the childs birthday partys that kind of thing. you would have to find a church that would let you have the baptisam most places just have you and the parent of the child attend a class one time and then make a date.

I don't believe there are any age restrictions on baptism.
You do NOT have to be catholic to be baptized...many other christian churches do infant baptism as well.
MOST churches require the parent of the child to be a registered member of the church, so make sure to look into those requirements ahead of time.
We are catholic and we also had a baptism preparation class we attended before our son's baptism :)

I don't believe there is an age requirement to be a god parent. Keep in mind as well that other religions besides Catholics baptize babys.
