If an agency asks you for money up front, for *anything*, they are a scam.

Call talent agencies in your area to see if they are accepting submissions. If so, ask them what they require; it's usually just a head shot and resume.

Mail your headshot to the Talent Agents in your city.
If anyone is interested, they will call you for an audition. Talent Agents are entitled to a 10% commission on the money you make as an actor, it is the only money to which they are entitled.

Agents are the professionals. An agent may think you are better suited for commercials and NOT television programs. It's their job to find where you are best suited in the industry.
You don't tell them!

The agent is the professional, listen to him or her.

Contact the agencies in your city. Find out if they are SAG affiliated. Stick to the ones that are SAG affiliated. Ask other actors who they prefer as a hardworking agency. Then call that agency up and ask them what they need from you in order for them to sign you. Remember, make sure the agency is SAG affiliated. SAG is an actors union. If an agency ask for money up front, more than likely they are trying to scam you. When you go in to talk to them, be yourself and tell them about you.
