They never went out, although it's obvious that they have more feelings for each other htan just friendship. Rumor has it we'll see more of this develop in the next book.

It's been very obvious that ron and hermione have feelings for each other but they never actually went out on a "date". I'd say that the closest thing to "date" for them would be going to Hogsmeade without Harry in book 3. The first time on Halloween, then the second time on the last weekend of the first term. At this second one, Harry gets in (with the help of the marauder's map) and spies on them for a while. Here's part of their conversation (sort of...kinda mixed it around a bit. it's not word-for-word): "Harry won't want those! i suspect they're for vampires. (blood flavored lollipops)" "How about these (cockroach clusters)" All of these were on page 197.
So, this is the evidence that they MIGHT have gone on a date. But they certainly didn't think of it as a date.

Spoiler warning (for those who haven't read up to book six and have no idea what happens therein):
Ron and Hermione never go out on a date, in fact, before the 'Half-Blood Prince' they either didn't realize or won't confess their feelings for each other. They spend a lot of time together as friends, however, they each display signs of jealousy when the other receives attention from a [potential] romantic interest (Ron was very upset with Viktor in GoF and Hermione with Lavender in HBP). I loaned my copy to a friend, so I can't specify the chapter or page, but Hermione invites him to the Slug Club. Shortly thereafter, though, he gets into a fight with Ginny and, as a result, into a relationship with Lavender, so he doesn't join her at the party. However, they reconciled after Ron was poisoned and in the last chapter, during the funeral, Ron held Hermione and stroked her hair as she cried. Most fans speculate, therefore, that they confessed their feelings to one another (to my knowledge, JKR hasn't yet confirmed that) and their relationship is expected to grow in the seventh book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

While Hermione and Ron never officially dated or "went out" they did go to Hogsmeade in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban without Harry because of his unsigned permission slip. Also in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, while Ron was under a rather strong love potion *thanks to amorous fans of Harry and his twin brothers' ability to smuggle their joke shop products into the school in disguise* he declared his love for his "Mione", but it's never been official. Ron has dated Lavender Brown, and Hermione was linked to Viktor Krum, but they haven't officially linked up. Oh and they did hold hands at the end of HBP during Dumbledore's funeral.

They did not go out in any of the books. In their third year they went to Hogsmeade together because harry didn't have permission to go.But we can say it was just friendly. In sixth book Hermione invites Ron to Slug Club's party but unfortunately Ron starts to snog Lavender so they didn't go to the party either.

They haven't actually been out yet...but it is going that way, they've been arguing, etc. and its fairly obvious that they both want to go out with each other...they were pretty close at the end of HBP and will probably get together in DH.

They do not actually go out, but by the end of HBP, Ron seems to have figured his feelings out and they do hold hand at Dumbledore's funeral, IIRC.
