In Victoria, Australia at the moment, is it financially better to buy or rent a house. In the long run, buying a house incurs a great deal of interest, whereas the rent money doesn't physically get you anything in the long run. Any opinions?

it depends on how expensive the apartments and houses are and depends on how much the rent is plus utilities and other things. and you can check it apartments and houses in a newspaper.

a friend of mine told me before, that he'd buying your own property is financially better in the long run.
but i had a friend who said that he'd rather be renting a house than buying one... he said he was sick of the headache of upkeep, taxes and all the other expenses of keeping a house. yes, it's true, that renting may sound like a waste of money, but if you're the type who doesn't want to hassle with paperwork and dealing with repairmen, renting a place doesn't sound so bad.
