For summer, I like Escada's Sunset Heat, Giorgio Armani's Acqua di Gio, and Bvlgari's Aqva. Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male is great for winter. And if you like simpler fragrances that start and finish great, Lucky You, Curve, and even Hollister's Jake are excellent. There are so many options available. When you go shopping in person (which for a scent is a very good idea), take another person to get a second opinion and because you'll probably get a little sick smelling some of the "fancy" or "designer" fragrances out there. I went to the mall yesterday for the same purpose, and I was nauseated after about six different ones. *yuck* Remember though, that a cologne that smells one way on me could smell differently on you, so try it on your skin if you like it on paper.
