It would be a boy if it has a sharp, pointing edge from it.
It would be a girl if it has blunt, pointing edge from it.

Since rocks are made out of material that is not considered to be a living organism, they would be genderless. In other words if it doesn't eat, sleep, ingest, excrete, breathe, have reproductive organs, or any other features we would associate with a living organism then, it does not need to have a gender.

It's not neccessary, earth worms don't have genders, so It's concievable that pet rocks can be without gender as well.

hmmm, I would think not. it cant reproduce anyway. but if you wanted to make it be a boy or girl you could. unless the pet rock is alive and tells you what IT wants to be

i should think so. i would prefer my rock be a boy rather than a girl. not sure why. the only downside is times when i'm sitting around the house naked. i'd feel pretty weird with him seeing a soft parts hanging loose. o.O

It might help when selecting which pronoun to use when you brag about your cool new pet to your friends
