You don't solve it, you put it into standard form.
x² + y² - 10x - 16y + 88 = 0
x² - 10x + 25 + y² - 16y + 64 = -88 + 25 + 64
(x - 5)² + (y - 8)² = 1
circle, radius 1, center (5,8)
x² + y² + 22x - 2y = -120
x² + 22x + 121 + y² - 2y + 1 = -120 + 121 + 1
(x + 11)² + (y - 1)² = 2
circle, radius √2, center (-11,1)
