This is because of the particular shape of the egg. In engineering, the elliptical shape have that much strength. Here I am unable to explain the engineering details of that. If you can check the old bridges, the under side is built in elliptical shape, because it could hold more loads.

Maybe you're not fully developed and strong enough to do it yet. Your hand has to wrap around it in the first place.
I think you mean that when you try to squeeze an egg when it's held end to end or top to bottom where it's the widest grip. For some people it's hard to break becase the egg is either symmetrically formed and therefore a stronger structure or the person isn't that strong in the first place.

Dear Jules,
it IS possible to squeeze an egg and break it.So if you want to try it, do it above the sink
BUT in theory and when you spread your palm's force equally to the surface of an egg then the force of each side gets neutral cause of the force of the other side.

I don't understand. I've broken eggs this way several times.
Please describe further. Are you not allowed simply to grab the egg?

it IS physically possible.
My physics teacher pulled a prank on one of my classmates using this myth.
It can hold up to a decent amount of pressure, but if you squeeze harder with, say, one of your fingers, you get a messy hand.

I would think it would break!
My only guess, if that is actually true, is that it has equal pressure all around which is making it stay put together. The force is holding it together.

the force is distributed. eggs are meant to protect the chick. you can only break it when there is a concentration of force.

I think it is possible. Are you sure you have a tight grip? I have done it a million time in home-EC.
