Assume that everyone in the world -- well, let's say everyone in the USA anyway -- was going to hear what you were going to say. What would you want them to know about caring for or respecting animals?

Personally, I'd tell everyone NOT to chain their dogs in the yard 24/7. Dogs NEED to be with their people!! Why bother to HAVE a dog if you are just going to ignore him??

And if I could say something else, I'd try to make people understand that MOST animals need company of their own kind. Rats need rats. Kittens need kittens. Mice need mice. Goats need goats...etc. There are a few exceptions -- male mice, perhaps, and some types of hamsters, but for the most part, animals are MUCH happier with companions. Dogs can do well with a human companion but even they might be happier with another dog around.

What would YOU tell everyone?

In addition to your answers, get your pets fixed!!!! Do NOT breed them. There are too many unwanted animals in the world today including purebreds. I know I've done pet rescue all my life. I haven't seen one of my life long friends because she got involved in the show circuit & breeding & I told her I thought it was wrong.

I would tell them to STOP ALL animal cruelty. Make a big, big, long speech until I get my point across. I hate animal cruelty too, but it seems like no one cares except for some other people! I have seen more than once, non vicious dogs chained up so the owners can forget about them. There was a Husky living down the street, and every morning he would be thrown a bowl of food and he was never taken on walks. I thought : whoa! That must be a vicious dog, or else they would let him off the chain! But every morning that I passed he would beg for cuddles at the fence. Every morning I pet him and I talked to him. Then the owners left and put him in the pound... God, it makes me angry just thinking about it!

I would tell everyone a detailed report about animal cruelty. In the state of Miami, I think, its 21 years in JAIL if you harm animals. 42 out of 50 states now have laws about animal cruelty because of the food recall. I am so glad pets are not viewed as property any more.

Hope this helped!
Sunshine G. :o)

EDIT: About the Husky, someone good picked him up. I was so happy!

What evidence do you have that all of these things are not true? Humans have a horrible sense of smell and it would not surprise me if most animals didn't have a 1000x greater ability to smell than we do. We know (from proven tests!) that dogs can track scents that are weeks old and can differentiate a track laid by identical twins. Can your nose do that? Testing can prove what a dog can smell compared to what a person can smell. I believe they've already done studies that indicate sharks are attracted by blood from a significant distance away. In the open ocean, being able to detect very small particles of blood in vast amounts of water is essential to them being able to survive. And certainly in certain circumstances i could see a croc going for a significant amount of time without a meal. While they do have a 4 chambered heart, their need for energy is not remotely like that of a true warm blooded animal and does not require the food that a warm blooded animal does. All of these things are completely provable (or disprovable) so your arguement that they could not prove them is false.

I would tell them what you said. I could never leave a dog outside the house its heart breaking. To me, pets make a home exactly that, a home.Weather its a fish, a hamster, or a dog and cat. I think the main thing I would say if I was going on tv is to remind everyone of the responsibility when you choose to buy a pet. I dont think people get it.

When I go through the questions page on google it angers me so much that people are posting questions on their pets for people to answer who are not qualified to answer and its obvious something is really wrong with their pet, but they are wasting time by pointlessly asking online when their pets need medical help!!! GRRR

People dont take into account that its their responsibility to take their pet to the vet if they are unwell, but again, questions get posted here from people who cant afford to take their animals to the vets. I find it so irresponsible and upsetting.

I would remind all pet owners, that like children, your pets rely on you to take good care of them, like children, they ensure their trust in you and give you unconditional love. Before getting a pet people really need to decide if they can take on that responsability.

What would I say???? Here you go. You are an animal, too. OK you may be a little different from the puppies you dumped or the fish you piosoned from over fertilizing you very green, green lawn, but you have to live here,, and your kids and grandkids have to live here. The notion that your kids will live on another planet is generations away. What ever you have stashed is a" gone" deal. You old foggie, area gone deal. And I am left to live here , thankyou very much.

You have to eat, you have to eliminate waste, you feel pain, and when no one is there to help you you get scared. That is why you aren't different from any other animal.
INDEED, you are an animal TOO

I would say to people who buy dogs as a fashion accessory.. what you doing? I live in australia where it gets above 40 degrees Celcius. There is this spate of people lately buying Huskies. A dog who has a natural resistance to cold and often lives in -40 degrees celcius comfortably. This i think is a form of animal cruelty, and needs to be recognised. I am seeing them in Sydney puffing and tired.

I would tell them that we need to make and enforce stricter penalties for animal abuse. As even if people are caught, they get a tiny fine and minimal jail time if any. And in some states they can even own animals again..Check out your state by going to http//www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruelty-laws.php?... Or you can see what kind of detrimental things people do to animals by looking around at http//www.pet-abuse.com To help you can fund food for abused and unwanted animals at http//www.theanimalrescuesite.com and click on free food..that easy!! And http/www.kinshipcircle.org/ has letter campaigns for animal rights, also easy.. What happened to "Do unto others....." ??

I'm around a lot off dogs and cats daily and observed that all off them has emotions and their own personalities. Some days they are sad,or happy or grumpy or playful and they do get jealous off each other. If one can observe this by paying attension to them, all off us, humans and animals will have a more satisfying relationship.
