How do I simplify the following?

35x^1/2y^1/6

Hello Tickled,

Here we go again.

Divide the coefficients and subtract the exponents of the like variables.

35/7 = 5

x^(1/2 - 1/3) = x^(1/6)

y^(1/6 - 1/3) = y^(-1/6)

So we have: 5x^(1/6)y^(-1/6) or

5x^(1/6)/y^(1/6)

combine terms with similar base and use the fact that x^a/x^b=x^(a-b) and you get

5x^(1/2-1/3)y^(1/6-1/3) = 5x^1/6y^-1/6 = (5x^1/6)/y^1/6
