It's not so much the scam aspect that's troubling, but the security aspect.

Plenty of people use throw-away cell phones for fear that the CIA or the NSA, or INTERPOL, or somebody is trying to listen to their calls. Perhaps with good reason....

It might have been good to have alerted somebody like the FBI, and I'm not one who usually advocates such things, though I have had occasion to call them myself, once.

He is probably just trying to cash in. Cell phones can be a lot more expensive in many countries than they are in the States. I wouldn't be too worried about the security issue. If AQ wanted cell phones I don't think they would have to randomly search the internet for people to buy them.

You've done the right thing and notified the authorities. Thank you. Follow up with the officers to see if they've made any progress with the investigation. If they laugh at you, call the FBI. Could be dangerous. Especially when people are desperate.

Take care,

Jen

You made the right call. I wouldn't have trusted him at all. I wouldn't trust that he was going to send the money, and I wouldn't have given him any bank info so he could 'wire the money', he probably would have cleaned out my account.

You did the right thing. It was probably some kind of scam.

It is not only weird, but highly suspicious. I would have contacted the FBI.
