Unfortunately, the old men (and women) need jobs because there is no such thing as retirement anymore, unless you are a millionaire. Seniors are finding that what they thought they would be getting from Social Security after years of putting money into it is not there and that health care is impossible to pay for. So, they have to work to live, just like all the rest of us who are no where near retirement age.
Also, the overall work ethic was a lot different when the 'old men' were still working toward retirement. Employees were more dependable then. Employers are more likely to hire them for this reason. Although some are working because they like to keep busy, the majority have no choice.

I'm 66 and I have a job. I work harder, am smarter, and deserve my job more than a lot of young men, which is why they gave me the job instead of the young men. I also show up when I'm supposed to.
If the young men need the job let them demonstrate what I have and get the job the right way, by competing for it. Not by needing it.
I need a million dollars. That doesn't mean anybody is going to give it to me.

Because John will get up at the crack of dawn and $hit, shave and fix his lunch before a young man even thinks about his first hand job of the day.

As others have stated, its much better to hire an older person than a younger one. Our younger generation is, for the majority, greedy and self-fulfilling with no respect for their elders or authority. Its all about ME!! to them. The older generation was raised with different (better) values and make better employees. Their work ethic is far superior. Besides, the basic Social Security check is a mere $515. Could *you* live on that today?

Woody, Woody, Woody. I'm an old man and the job I do and the pay I get wouldn't attract a young man. Who is this John, your father?

If I were a young man, I would want 'old' (define?) men to have jobs...
...that way I wouldn't have to pay additional taxes, social security, etc., to the government in order to pay for their social security, medicare, and other 'handouts' that are given to 'old people'....
...as they (the old farts) could take care of themselves!?
P.S. I am an old fart (grin)
?

Nobody "gives" anyone a job. A person and an employer enter into an agreement which benefits both.
