It rarely happens. And even less now, as there are huge penalties for it and you take a big risk of your goalie being tossed from the game. But there are a couple of scenarios.
The mail would be it is an all person brawl on the ice. Everyone has paired off at one end of the ice. A lot of times, you pair off just to keep the other guy out of the ones who are fighting so the fight is even. You don't want 2 guys beating up on one guy. Well, the goalie is an extra guy down there. If it is an out and out brawl, he is potentially that extra guy, not matched up, and a second guy beating up one of your players. You better skate down there and take him on! He is who you have to match up with.
Another one is the order of things in this chaos. If you hit a goalie, you are marked. YOU should be marked. If you hit a goalie every other person on the other team should be wanting to protect him from the toughest guy down to the weakest guy, and you should get it. So, if a goalie is out of line, really the only one out there that can take him on is the other goalie.

its the rally monkey, when all 5 guys on the ice are fighting, the goalies are just standing there, then the guys on the bench look over and see their goalie skating out to center ice and it rallies the team, the whole game in fact the whole year the team has the goalies back hurting a guy that touched the goalie, this is the goalies way of saying hey i got your back too, as a side effect it rallies the fans and announcers too

Since the play is over and everyone is slugging it out, the goalies think it would be nice to join. It's only happened 3 times ( that i know of). In 1996 it was Vernon vs. Roy, in which Vernon won. The second time was Osgood vs. Roy, in which Osgood won. There was almost a Hasek vs. Roy, but Hasek tripped on a stick. The final fight was Ryan Emery vs. a Buffalo goalie, in which i dont know who the winner was.

they come out of their goals to fight simply to be part of the team and show that they have emotions too. Most of the time you think those are the guys that never fight. They want to fight to give that extra boost to the team so their team says "Damn, the goalie really wants this game" and they go out and play harder. Its just like in Baseball, when the manager goes out and argues a call and gets ejected, it makes the team want to win that much more. They want to win bad when something goes down like that because they are not fighting for themselves, but for the team, that is why the goalies fight.

i will upload that the goalies also get an more effective 2 minutes for leaving the crease. also, opportunities are extreme that if the goalies are into it, it really is an all out brawl with everybody having a dance major different, so as that makes it exciting. became once no longer so uncommon, how I omit those days. Baseball has way more effective brawls those days, what does that say?

A lot of times, when something happens right in front of you, and you're an emotional person, it's hard to remain contained and not fight. Imagine how the goalie must feel, to be chained to the net when his teammates are getting beaten up in a fight (such as Heatley and Spezza in the now Infamous Buffalo-Ottawa brawl). Emery came out of the net because nobody else was standing up for his friends, and he felthe could make a difference.
Coaches usually discourage fighting for goalies since they ARE the single most important players in a hockey team, but sometimes emotions simply rise too high to be ignored. Most of the times when goalies leave the net, its usually to fight when nobody else is willing to stand up on their team, whether its for a cheap hit, interference, etc.

support, basically. In this years playoffs, the goalies came out and fought, and then the team whose goalie initated the fight, i forget who this was, they ended up winning the series after being down.
But, goalies fights are really rare either way.

Watching goalies fight, is the equivelent of watching 2 girls., having a pillow fight. No damage gets done, but pretty amusing anyway.

why not? I think goalies never really get in on the action, so when they get a chance they take it. Watch the emery / Biron fight, emery had a huge smile on his face because he was just getting to fight for no reason really

The same reason any other player would fight, to protect their team mates, or to settler a score. My favourite goalie fight would be the Roy vs Vernon fight of '97.
